Ben had his 2 month check-up the other day. Along with being diagnosed with a ginormous brain, Ben got a vial of letters injected into his tiny leg: RV, DTP, Hib, PCV, IPV.
Yep – this was his first round of vaccinations, and these pictures would have you believe it went well …

I’d planned on going back to work. Really, I did. I mean, I’ve seen documentaries about women who would squat in rice fields, give birth with no more than a grunt and then immediately start plowing again. No big deal, right? I’m clearly cut from a different cloth… a wimpier cloth. Deciding to stay home with Ben is simultaneously a no-brainer (who wouldn’t want to hang out with this kid 24/7?) and really difficult (I’ve worked since I was 17 and feel guilty/lazy not earning money). What ultimately tipped the scale in favor of unlikely housewifery was the troubling fact that Ben has fallen into the wrong crowd. It’s difficult to say this but… Ben has joined a gang. Kurt and I tried to deny it but the evidence is too overwhelming. I fear that if I return to work, I’ll lose him to the streets forever. They start so young these days…

Okay, Ben is 9 weeks old and, well… he kinda sucks. Don’t get me wrong, he’s certainly cute and giggly and smiles a lot but, man, when is he going to start pulling his own weight? Not only do I still have to feed him (sometimes more than once a day!), he refuses to change his own diapers, sits around and has to be carried everywhere instead of walking and doesn’t even have the courtesy to speak to me. What a lazy baby! In an effort to correct this, I insisted that he at least start doing his own laundry. As expected, it was a disaster and he made a joke of it (shocking photos below the cut). Any advice on how to motivate him?

This was a socially busy week for Ben. Some of his friends dropped by to see him, including his Honorary Uncle Obe (who came all the way from Georgia) and his other Honorary Uncle Danny (who lives in Boston and should really, really move back. Hint). Ben’s buddy Camren also dropped by a few weeks ago (those who went to our wedding will recall that he was our ring bearer and did a damn fine job despite not even being 2 years old at the time).
Also pictured below are a few photos of me attempting to feed Ben while our cat Snoop decides to give my head a big hug. She’s nothing if not helpful.
I must go and continue watching “Five Under Five”, a show on the Discovery Channel about a lesbian couple (yay!) who have 5 children under the age of 5. It should be called, “What Caused My Inexorable Descent Into Alcoholism, Madness and Crack Smoking.” I mean… five?! Sheesh…
